Hair thinning and hair loss

What is PRP?

PRP stands for “Platelet-Rich Plasma. It is a substance that is inside your body, within your blood. When extracted and separated from the blood, PRP can be reapplied and anti-injected to the skin and scalp to generate growth and healing.

Benefits: PRP for the skin and hair helps the skin heal from things like scarring, uneven skin tone and texture, enlarged pores, and stretch marks. It can also help with hair thinning and hair loss.

How it works:

A provider will draw blood from the patient’s arm and will place that blood in a centrifuge that will spin it and separate the PRP. Once they have the PRP, the provider will perform a microneedling treatment or injection on either the skin or scalp to create micro-injuries in the skin and stimulate collagen production and healing. After the microneedling treatment, the provider will apply the PRP back onto the patient’s skin or scalp. This boosts the healing power of the treatment and acts as a natural growth factor.

Before the microneedling treatment, the provider will apply a topical numbing cream to your skin so you will be completely comfortable throughout the procedure.

Some people experience slight redness right after a PRP treatment but there is generally no downtime. You will most likely have the PRP on your skin for about 4-6 hours before you can wash it off so, you will probably want to go straight home after the treatment.

Every patient is different but most people benefit from multiple PRP treatments, usually 2-3, spaced about 4 weeks apart.

Again, it varies from person to person, however, optimal results will be seen 14 days after treatment and you may start to notice changes in as little as a few days with results getting better after each treatment.
